My favorite place to be

Since I was little, I was obsessed with playing house, and regularly read my mom’s books on homemaking. I dreamed of what my future home would look like, who the man I would share it with would be like, and how it would be to take care of it with him. I read the chapters in those homemaking books about food shopping, washing sheets, how to deep clean your house, set a table, etc. I was probably trying to avoid doing actual school work by reading those books, but they really did draw me in.

Now that Ryan and I are living in our first apartment together, I’m loving every minute of turning this place into a home and all that comes with it. After a day spent in front of my computer for my job, I get a true rush of energy knowing I get to spend the rest of the day doing my favorite things - making a delicious meal, sharing it with my favorite person, and simply enjoying being in the place we now call our home together.

I’ve enjoyed it so much that I don’t want to forget these moments or these feelings, so I decided I’m going to document them here. The puzzle of turning a blank space into a home, the satisfaction of deep cleaning, the daily joy I get from setting the table and enjoying a meal we cooked together are all moments I want to document and share here. I’m doing this for me, but I’m going to dream big, too, and hope that it inspires others to turn their home into their favorite place to be.

The kitchen is my favorite place

This nook is my number one favorite place in our apartment. We start our mornings here and end our evenings here, as we use the cart to not only make tea, coffee, and espresso, but make cocktails or set out wine glasses for dinner.

A little more lived in here

A month into the apartment and Blueberry and Piper are feeling the love, too.
